bloggers vs. wiki

12.30.2005 | 2 Comments

after the launch of Can I Crash ? I have been doing some research around bloggers and their use of wiki’s.

first thing I did was to check my mate Dragos Novac’s poll on argumente.ro

then I checked technorati for wiki Surveys – nada

wikipedia.org – nothing….

so im gathering information for a survey on bloggers on wiki’s – or more general, the usability of wiki’s when it comes to bloggers.

how can it be enhanced ?

it must be on the mind of wiki software people all the time…

I will post the survey shortly on toothlesstiger

stay tuned

salvor is trying to get more focus on the censorship at myspace.com

12.23.2005 | 4 Comments

Seems like Salvor has putted together a “Y-O-U-T-U-B-E” suppoert group at myspace.com and it has over 400 members by now!

also myspace.com deleted Salvors blog and account, only to reopen it later..

is this the way we see social network for the kids in the future ? fake profiles and advertisements ?

this is a picture of Salvors original blogpost:

another perfect example of advertisers and marketing taking over

Christ…

I covered this issue earlier this week here

the usability of a wiki

12.22.2005 | 3 Comments

as an entrepreneur I will try and adress the issues that I have on my projects, and Can I Crash ? is allready experiencing some. it’s not fatal errors – nor is it extremely important, but to some extend the usability needs to be improved.
Heck we have only been running for 2 days now and there has been a lot of people adding country and city links, and then not going further.

is the wiki not integrated enough in the blogosphere to be used by “Joe Normal ?”

anyway, I have added a search function and I am testing a RSS feed with the recent updates. I will add it when I think it is running smoothly enough.

how can you make a Wiki more usable? – is this the right format at all for Can I Crash ?

if any of you wiki gods ( or goddesses) out there has any suggestions – please let me know

Arla to trial in Denmark – blogs used in a courtroom

12.22.2005 | 1 Comment

Maja Møller of Arla foods ( the big bad dairy king of Scandinavia) is putted to trial in Denmark for having overused their domination on the danish market and locked out some small competitors.

the case is that the prosecutor states that ” Arla paid the distributor 200.000 kr ( about 35.000 USD) to stop selling a small competitors product”
Arla states that “they bought advertising in the distributors magazines for 200.000 kr”

Maja is puzzled whether she should blog the trial or leave it.

maybe the prosecutor will use her blog in trial then ? – but she chose to go for it ( good girl!)

has anyone experience with blogs possibly being used in trials ?

I will update you on how things goes

buzzwords of the blogosphere 2005

12.22.2005 | 2 Comments

the buzzwords of blogs in general, I have found out is ( and probably will always be) “people” and “conversation” – which saves me a lot of time, because if I am podcasted at a conference or some of the participants ( anywhere) asks me “what I am doing in this specific venue” I end up answering ” people and conversation”. I think it adds blogging up pretty good. I want to specify it a bit more and throw “interconnectivity”, “passion”, “remarkability” and “research” in there too.

I have been a blogger since.. well Reboot 7, where I found myself standing in the midst of all these “crazy, passionate, intelligent and creative” people and didn’t know what to expect or who to talk to.

When I got home I found out that some of the people I had talked to had pretty “impressive” projects going on. I got dear friends and really good connections out of it.

A lot of things has happened since then. I quitted my ba.int at CBS – because there was no point in me being there.

so where do I/we from here in the blogosphere ?

In my point of view, I am sure you are going to see the blogosphere divided into clusters based on
1. professionalism
2. interests
3. people you would hang with if they lived in the same town as you

so is it basically the good’old highschool grouping we see here ? Maybe.. but it’s a network worth maintaining

and I think that Technorati and the rest of the blogsearch tools are going to evolve products that deals with the information overload of the rss feeds ( that we all have)

also I think that tools like Squidoo are really something special, because to me ( and I haven’t even got a lens yet) I can write down everything in my opinion that is cool, important and inspirational to me.

to me Squidoo is a cluster – once again Im not done playing with it – and I have hardly gotten around with it so much, so I can analyze it from anything else then my first impression!

Fuck me, Im famous!

12.19.2005 | 4 Comments

Hugh and I are debating – he is not taken critics from a kitten *s*… trying to get me to look naive, unprofessional and unbusinesslike.. underestimating me for all I am worth… my biggest advantage and my biggest weakness…

anyway we aren’t agreeing and possibly we never will, but I did do a drawing of the whole thing.

I could only draw a carrot..

me and Hugh discussing.. nice in’it ?

salvor trying out myspace.com – and is not happy

12.19.2005 | 2 Comments

Salvor is trying out myspace.com and can’t link to her videoclips on youtube.com, worse still – she can’t even type youtube.com on myspace – it blanks it out.
reality check for big companies doing ” social networking” … please !

I have seen some very businesslike “social networking” ideas whether they are “sponsoring the network”,blocking out their “competitors” etc etc. to protect themselves from the market.

I mean what is this ? do something genuine and we will like you. If you’re no good we won’t use your service.

and stop calling it social networking if its not.

im being sponsored – blogging turned ugly

12.14.2005 | 12 Comments

firstly a real geeky badge:

Ben Metcalfe's badge. I got one sponsored !

I have to note that both during the les blogs conference in Paris and the london geek dinner the previous saturday I have in some content had something sponsored

a goodiebag at les blogs

all “meals” at les blogs

the sponsors got keynotes and where on panels.

when I entered the restaurant in London where the geekdinner was held , the waiter didn’t know what I was talking about when I said that we were attending the “geekdinner” – she refered to it as the “microsoft party” which left me slightly puzzled.

I soon found out that microsoft had payed 10 £ for each attendant for the food. to begin with the bill was 20 £ ( the microsoft reduction was not mentioned on geekdinner page) – so I was sponsored again. and guess what ? the sponsors got to speech.

microsoft had send their man from “MSN UK” who said that “we could love him or hate him, but we were to notise that they were at this geekdinner – and yahoo and google were not” – ( I couldn’t help but thinking that they wanted to show that they cared for the geeks).

still I the reason the geekdinners are attractive for me is that it is venues who aren’t sponsored- you pay yourself and you get to talk to people.

and I met excellent people there, some I knew, some I didn’t

I don’t care if there’s corporate bloggging – the can use the tools as they want. What is essential for me is that bloggers shouldn’t be marketed at, at a geekdinner venue. a geekdinner in my opinion is conversation. period.

what is the counteract of the corporations taking advantage of the blogosphere ?
