this shit is bananas - b-a-n-a-n-a-s

sorry people, Im breaking the radiosilence from planet Henriette where I live.

I have done a huge mistake in the danish blogosphere ( without my knowing).. my 4 readers who knows me well, will probably describe me as innovative, rebellic and provocative. so I teamed up with (still only in my own opinion) tøseblogger no 1 ( a free translation to english would be chickblogger ) Trine “Sille” Thorendal

We wanted to make an event over “tøsebloggers” and an “ode to the existence as a chickmedia” because both of us think that “tøsebloggers” is going to take over the world of “cosmopolitan” and other “glitzy magazines” at some point in the future. why ? because blogging is a killer tool, and peoples life are interesting!

anyway - we putted up a wiki page for the event where our intentions was that all the people ( and I don’t say bloggers here on purpose) who thought this was an interesting subject could sign up and have this debate together with us. whether they were from the blogosphere, or In Real Life people.
and not just women - but men too. we simply putted a note saying that men should be invited by the ladies to participate ( aka. the london girl geekdinner ).. both because we wanted to see more female faces at the event - but also because it’s flattering to have guys ask you on a date..

heck we even contacted speakers !

we should probably have known that there was trouble coming our way, when the page was altered in mysterious ways 3 times last weekend ( pictures here)

BUT when we released a pressrelease with some spelling and grammatical errors ( hey we are semi professional girls doing this for the kick of it - and don’t really give a damn about pressreleases) and furthermore defined “Tøsebloggers” as people who blogged about their everyday life - a large part of the danish blogosphere exploded. why ? because ” tøs” or “chick” is obviously a negative word. and we had categorised people whom we didn’t know.

and most certainly, did not want to be called a “tøseblogger”.

on top of that we have stated ourselves as “initiative” ( in danish the word is “fremtrædende”) bloggers - because yeah ! we think that we do our bit for the danish blogosphere.. especially outwards. and we have contacted the press ( well we haven’t really yet, but YES we have made a real badly spelled and written pressrelease)

but that was a big mistake, I think there is about 20 danish blogs blogging and debating (and dividing) the danish blogosphere as we speak.. and it’s not nice things being said about us.

I have been thinking, not sleeping, crying, wondering, turning my head upside down, inside out about this issue.

and now I finally see why some companies are reluctant to take up blogging. seriously - no matter what we said or stated it was used against us - and the image that these comments and post, gives us is not very true. so blogging for a company can turn into image suicide. this is an eyeopener to me as a speaker on blogging because I have had troubles to see the disadvantages of blogging - now they are here.

but we had our support. thanks guys, you know who you are. and I got myself a really good friend ( yeah Trine that’s you) because we had to debate this amongst ourselves in our asylum.

still we are going ahead with the event. Maybe not many tøsebloggers will show up now ( they have to consider if they really want to label themselves “tøsebloggers”- but I think it’s going to be a blast.. to meet real “tøser” from the blogosphere.

I think it’s sad though, because when I chose to follow thehughpage.com’s initiative and start the CPHgeekdinner - nobody gave a fuck that I called them geeks. they showed up anyway , maybe stating to me personally that they were not geeks.. but.. I allready knew they weren’t. come on it’s a label ! - don’t take it so fuckin personal !

I am freaked out by being called a consumer !

picture this : that if mainstream media picks up on this event ( which I hope they will) when we get the time to do the real PR - I am going to make sure to state - that “NOT all people at the Tøseblogger event, are Tøsebloggers..” do you think the journalist is going to be puzzled - or print it ? does it matter? no.

come on guys. give me hell. tell me how bad my english spelling is.

HUGZ

Henriette

  3. Pub Smith says:

Hi Henriette, I have to admit my Danish is a million times worse that your English (even with the odd, small spelling or grammar mistake - hey we’re all inteligent enough to work out what you meant) so I can’t read the negative comments you’ve been getting. But don’t let them put you off. I hope the event is a success and enjoyable for you and all who attend.

On a side note, it’s always good in a weird way to have first hand experience of how something that seems like such a great tool can have negative side effects. You’ll know to avoid them next time and let’s face it, we’re all still learning so your experience just makes you stronger

    Pub (nobody) :)

  4. Henriette says:

    Henriette

  5. Leto says:

    Tøseblogger 12 point!

    Narrow focus - broad results!

  6. Henriette says:

@Pub - yeah I learned so much.. it’s amazing , I think I have more knowledge about it now then your “normal” blog consultant - because I have felt it on my own body - and to express feelings - it has been a Helluva ride… both ups and down..

Leto - wanna join the event as my date ? we can just pretend you are someone else,
if you are worried about the angry danish fembloggers *s*

  7. Leto says:

    @Henriette,
I certaintly would, but I am already been invited by tigerstriben, because she thinks that I am a tøseblogger and she says to have Google to back it up.
So If I attend your event, it would be impolite of me not to say yes to tigerstriben, underneath all this, Im trying to be a gentlemen.

And by the way, I am not worried about the angry danish fembloggers, I think they worry to much ;-)

Bliv bare fremme i skoene tøser :-)

  9. Irene says:

Henriette, I will answer you in English as that seems to be the language you use on this blog.

As you know, I am one of the women who regret that you and Trine have chosen to categorise so narrowly and you also know that I find the term offensive. The reason why I find the term offensive is that the etymology of the word “tøs” has very negative connotations. Secondly, because the origin of the name is from a male blogger who, appear very derogative of female bloggers in general.

The biggest error you made, from my perspective, is that you actually categorised somebody (Liselotte)* as a “tøseblogger” (chick blogger). She would probably not have passed any comment if you had not lumped her in with “yourselves”. ( I put “yourselves” in quotes as I really feel that this divide i wrong. We are all women).

Anyway, I find it commendable that you have taken the initiative for this event. No matter how much I regret the name. I will not go into all the usual arguments as I have said my piece often enough on various blogs.

Now, if I may suggest a couple of alternative names:
    hjerteblogger (heart blogger),
    hunblogger (she blogger),
    kvindeblogger (womenbloggers)
    hunkønsblogger (female blogger)

I wish you a brilliant event! I look forward to hearing about it and as you know, I would have been there myself if not I had financial and geographic restrictions even though I do not fit into the box.

PS. I have tried to figure out how to access the discussion on the wiki, however, I am defo not a geek, so it will take a bit before I get my head around it. You are welcome to quote this yourself on the wiki, if you like.

    PPS
    5-6 may categorise me as a “cow blogger”… Well, I am a taurus, so… ;-)

*I cannot speak for Liselotte, but merely surmise.

  10. Zpitzen says:

  16. Zpitzen says:

What a big fuss about nothing…
