“la belle epoque” of the web nowadays.
I have started my open university film and media course again. yep.
The film history course that I am taking this fall ( together with audiovisual productions) had a very interesting lecture this monday.
actually, the film industry in 1895 (the dawn of film production where the Lumiére brothers held the first public screening of movies in Paris) looks a lot like the web today.
the film industry in 1895 was completely hyped also… How can I tell ?
well look up George Mèliés movies on the web.
He was a magician – and found out that he could do ” magic tricks” with film production and dazzle his audience. I in particular enjoy these three
the naivity and the exciting behaviour that Mèliés is showing, is so very inspiring.
I mean here he is, making films, using technology in a way that none has done before .
The web today has the same kind of substance. We have no idea how to use it yet. We have no idea what it will become. Still there is a part of the naivity and excitement that is missing.
Why ?
Because everything has been done before. Or that is the general idea.
to prove my case : I am absolutely in love with André Hedetofts mission to become a geek movie director. I know for a fact that this is what he urging to do for a living. I think it is fascinating that he has developed a whole game around his passion – and his dream.
other people are saying ” it has been seen before” – “it is nothing new” – ” you should just start vlogging”… But I sense that André is somewhere in Malmø, eager to begin his career in this way.
Can’t things be remarkable because they have been done before ?
so lets get the naivity and excitement back into the web. lets all be like Mèliés and chop our heads of 5 times and make them sing *s*
