changing the name of this blog to “web avant- garde”

11.27.2006 | 1 Comment

Because I like the sound of it… *s*

I wrote it on Peter Rukavina’s blog in a comment..

and nobody remembers ” only the real is unreal” anyway ,and I think I have grown out of it…

so web avant garde.. c’est moi…

btw –

I also thought about ” web mise-en-scene” mostly because nobody agrees what mise-en-scene actually is.. it’s has always been referred to as film criticism’s ” grand undefined term”…

that’s so.. web 2.0..

now tell me we aren’t the belle epoque of the web..

anyway I think I must be more “avant-garde” than “mise-en-scene”…

the approach to web 2.0

11.27.2006 | 0 Comments

I am currently working on some scribblings about “stories” that I want to have published on Change This!

anyway I am sitting here with my WIFI shut off not to be disturbed – and out comes this – I don’t know if I can use it for the publication – BUT I didn’t think that you ( dear reader) should be without it…

“So, In Real Life relations is always going to be more important than what is happening in the media and online. Technology is great – but I am a firm believer that if it doesn’t go hand in hand with relations – and people can’t see what they can use it for, it is never going to be on a day to day level. People aren’t going to incorporate it, they are just going to know that there’s something out there called technology. Period. Something people in white gowns is working with in labs.
Now I would go so far to state that technology isn’t rocket science. Well a part of technology is.

But human relations technology ( or web) isn’t rocket science. It’s the opposite because everybody can do it. So people should stop acting like web is rocket science…it’s not. It’s not even business. I would claim that it comes close to philosophy and mentality. But actually it’s pure and simple; human interaction.
And to make it a bit more fun – I would claim that it is a playground.”

“the spirit” of new media and the business issue

11.22.2006 | 2 Comments

So I am getting annoyed at the danish media for their web approach when it comes to new media…fx:

*you can’t have a whole article in RSS – only an extract (read: you have to click on so we get more traffic on our website)
* ” we are adopting the whole ” web 2.0h” approach and have users deliver content that we can use on our mainsites, without sharing it with the rest of the blogosphere…

Now – I don’t really mind that – but I am starting to sense that this is getting to be a drag to the users. I mean if I want to read 3 different news papers in RSS that delivers 100 posts each – I have to click through 300 times. Am I willing to do that ?

ehhrr. not really.

instead i get really annoyed with headlines

sometimes, I would wish that (in an ideal world) that the whole ” what’s in it for me?” approach of some business would just perish and go away…

what would ideally happen if you missed out on my 4 clicks a day – but still I read 50 stories instead of 4 ? if you actually gave me the whole article with pictures etc…

I mean I understand the mechanism and all, but couldn’t there be another shot at this ?

creativity is “getting real” on the net

11.22.2006 | 0 Comments

37signals published the E-book ” getting real” in 2006 – it evolves around the tasks that needs to be done to make a succesful web application. Now, I haven’t got that much experience in making web app’s ( especially since I don’t code).. but ThomasKay was continously telling me that I had to read it, because it would change my life and the way I looked at projects.
So I did.
It was great.
You have to read it.

Anyway, there’s a lot of the tasks and processes that can be used in creative ways, and especially related to the web – for me especially related to Toothless Tiger.
Now what thrills me about the web nowadays – and why I am envolved with it, I guess is the spontanity of it all. There’s so many projects in beta waiting to be commented on and shaped to it’s further development.

You can actually shape things to your liking. isn’t that fantastic?

and not only web app’s you can actually shape your world.

so what did “getting real” teach me ? that I don’t need to hesitate with my projects – I can actually post my ideas ( or projects) on a blog/wiki/community) and have the instant first ideas from the people there.
Now if the critism is non constructive and I am met with a – “this has allready been done before” – I LISTEN, and if I don’t agree or think that the survival of the project is likely not to happen in this area, I simply change the community. new ” targetgroup” if you will…
Sometimes my ideas are so far out that no one get’s it.
Sometimes I put too much responsability in the hands of the readers/participants…

what’s important to me is that I learn – and I know things for the next crazy idea…

I don’t need to wait until some widget is developed, it can be putted on display from the beginning, and I do normally have a good sense of whether I should continue with the project or let it go.

so spontanity is important for creativity and this is what the web gives me.
feedback and answers… FLOW if you will.

lovely..

and if you haven’t read “getting real” I would say it is a must.

BarCamp Copenhagen in Review – geeky shit

11.21.2006 | 2 Comments

So, BarCamp Copenhagen took place last friday – and it was absolutely smashing geekrific *s*

the geek factor was really high though and i had to step of the conversation at points – simply because I had no idea what they we’re talking about… *s*

my list over things that went really well!:

* spirits where good from the beginning – conversation flowed from the start
* people had really prepared themselves, it was such a pleasure
* IRC is a good extention to this kind of venue – we had foreign guests…
* the Gadgets was a fantastic way to relax the conversation for a while
* even though we came from entirely different corners of technology, I think the inspiration was enormous
* I sincerely think that we could have continued all night… so the real camping is a possibility…
* and you lovely participants – you we’re the ones that made this happen, thanks!

what could be better for next time:

* moderation of the conversation so everybody isn’t just talking at the same time
* I would like everybody who signs up at an event to let the initiator know if they’re not coming – and possibly a couple of days in advance.. it’s a drag having half of the people cancelling 3 hours before a venue is taking place( some just didn’t show up)..

any other comments will be great!

So, trying out a concept here – inspired by a conversation with Noel Hidalgo where he mentioned the concept to me.

actually the purpose is for different types of freelancers to get together in an office to work – basically to bring the whole café idea into the office.

but I thought, that now that my office (aka my home) lies about 13 km from the center of Copenhagen it would be more of a thrill to actually meet at a Café with WIFI and drink a lot of coffee and get some work and ideas done

the chosen first café is

“café Kassen ( Nørrebrogade 18 B Kbh N) on the 22nd of November” – I will arrive around 10

you can read more information here

and the Upcoming.org venue site is here

What if internet marketing is 10 years behind technology and tendencies ?

11.04.2006 | 2 Comments

It’s 3 a.m here, and I can’t sleep – I am turning and twisting because I have been drinking coffee after 6 in the evening. Big mistake.

I have been having this scary image inside my mind for a while now.

After a trip to Viral Marketing La La Land, I am terrified for the communities of the world.

Basically because it occured to me, that companies, as a part of the ”new media” thing – are using “old school marketing.”

Im talking traffic ratings, placement, commercial deals here, ANYTHING BUT conversation and “real to real marketing…”

Yep I know, I am a hippie – and this might not be a bad thing.

Or at least to some people, it might not be a bad thing. To me it’s bullshit.

But when people are seriously thinking that what they are getting on the internet from blogs and Vblogs as a matter of comments, blogposts etc, is the real deal, real people, real genuine conversation. Aren’t they being cheated by marketing ?

If companies are hiring teenagers to do vblogs to create more hype around a viral campaign – and launching it on youtube – isn’t that a huge problem ?

Wouldn’t I – as a consumer, be mislead by this ? because it’s not a part of real people’s life, but a marketing stunt?

I have a confession; I was one of the kids who got into marketing to change marketing. To stop sweatshops. To change companies and the way they look at ”consumers” from within…

And this bothers me, it truely does.
