the danish christmas calendar

I have chosen the 12th of december as my christmas calendar day where I will write a rather personal view on Christmas. 12 is my lucky number…This is for the danish christmas calendar being putted together by miss hotpants

I have always been into christmas - and giving presents is more a part of me than getting presents, for sure.

After the birth of my daugther, my boyfriend and I celebrate christmas together - either with my side of the family, or with his side of the family. And I enjoy every minute of it, BUT - I do miss my family when celebrating with the in-laws..

Even though we will see my family a lot prior to christmas and also a lot after - It’s still not the same being with them on the actual christmas eve. I, in particular miss my brother - and how christmas used to be when my mothers’ parents where alive.

my grandmother always made this “ris a la mande” that nobody liked.. most of the time it was burned.
my grandfather always putted several almonds in the ris a la mande, so he would get the present. nobody could finish their plate though..

now I have included a new christmas tradition with my “new” family ( meaning me, Thomas and our daugther) which took place this sunday.

We invited all of my familly for cookie baking, and making things for our christmas tree ( which was also decorated sunday morning) - our daughter putted all the things on there, in a very interesting way.. all the stars are together in one place - all the balls in another. so she has grouped our christmas tree - I guess she couldn’t stand the pain of having them apart…

like when I saw our little tree and it was the messiest one around the tree selling store. I just couldn’t bare to think of it standing there alone in the dark on christmas day as the last christmas tree around. So we bought it. the seller had a ” no REALLY ?” look on his face, but home it went and it fits perfectly here.

so I think that christmas is about being together - doing things that are informal - and have conversations, and humanity towards messy christmas tree’s *s*

this is the only christmas, year in review, post I will do - last year there was plenty, but happy christmas everyone - and take a good new year while you’re at it..
