Hi Ton -

I am thinking the same - it all depends how people are using the twittering... I mean with "leaving" ( I think it's a strange term for unsubscribing from SMS services from your friends..) you friends you might miss out on cool and fun information =)

but I don't need to hear somebody say " blogging", "blogged again" , "commenting", "eating" etc..

I think an important way to approach the "whatdowedo" applications are with asking the question " would I like to know this ?" before sending it out. at least, that is what need to be done to have the SMS service working properly...

I also see the "whatdowedo" as extremely personal, so it's going to be limited who I would want to have sms'es of what I do - I also think that most people don't really give a damn...

I think instead of writing what you're actually doing - I would rather have some deep thoughts, or some funny ones... so more "wondering", "thinking" , and "twisting my brain" - in stead of " going to sleep" - or " have to go to the loo" ...

I could write about this subject forever *s*

Hi Henriette,
The SMS-ing by Twitter really got on my nerves. My main issue with it is that it gives me the items one by one in an SMS. I am way more interested in the pattern that builds when you someones activities in a glance. As a peripheral awareness of what people are up to, and if there is something in there worth a second look and some interaction. I do not need the seperate messages for that, just the general chatter. So I switched the SMS updates for Twitter of again.

best,
Ton

You can also use Twitter with your instant messenger (GTalk, AIM, Jabber) which is a bit "lighter" on the interruptions than SMS; when you go offline from your IM, your messages will go to your phone, instead.

> it’s grand ! but I can’t turn some of the friends of the mobile ( only all friends
> or direct messages seems to be the option now)…

Actually, you can turn people on and off the phone on a per-person basis, as well. From their profile (e.g., http://twitter.com/ev), if they're your Twitter friend, select "leave" and you'll still see them on the web, but not on your phone. You can also just send "leave [username]" from the phone.
