“Social” need the “web of things†to keep it growing

I am catching the flu – my body is twisting and turning of incubation and ideas even though I can barely keep my eyes open due to the fever…
But I had a comment from Pedro Bruno, where he claims that we are right in between the â€web of people†and â€web of thingsâ€. And as I probably have claimed a lot recently, I think that there are some web apps who are pushing this. And for a good reason also !
These are the ones I call the â€transitional web apps†– the apps that are not only build on one web platform but are also using peripheral devices such as mobiles, WIFI bunnies, Chumby’ s, photoframes etc. I think this is THE most exciting tendency around these days and I have been waiting for this party to start for ages.
Ton Zijlstra came with an very interesting comment as well.
But Ton’s and Bruno’s comments got me wondering – is it more “people†( social) we need – or is it more “things†(peripheral devices)?
I don’t know if more “social †will do the trick for very much longer. I mean there has to be a limit of how “social†we can be. – We are connected in so many other ways now. I am leaning against more “thingsâ€. Social don’t cut it anymore… I don’t think so. If social is standing alone it’s boring. Social need the “web of things†to keep it growing.
Would you name your newest application with something typically web 2.0 ? – I don’t think so…
Ohh and I am looking forward to the day when somebody launches a “twitter+jaiku+nabaztag+chumby+plazes+imity applicationâ€.
I mean is there any reason not to, by now ?

Sounds like it is time for you to get busy making this application Henriette?
I do agree with your vision. there is something happening here. there is something about the idea of passively broadcasting your personal-context or seeing the current status/context of your friends that is important.
right now this whole idea is fragmented among a fragmented mess/mish-mash of social apps twitter, facebook status, plazes, last.fm, blog sidebar widgets etc etc.
somehow will this all come together in a way everyone can use?
“hardware” or connected objects or better devices might be part of the answer

I’m with you for smart app integration. I’ve now discovered tumblr (http://steph.tumblr.com) — yet another place to be tempted to throw stuff at. I’m starting to not know where to say things anymore.
Which brings me back to people. If we had tools which could consolidate people all in one place (I’m talking about online)… Only half-thinking, here, but I think it gives back more importance to the people.
