declaring myself an anti-consumerist !

7.30.2008 | 1 Comment

august is my first “no consumption month” for me – I have taken up a challenge from a book I bought so I can’t get any more stuff in august at least (I bet thomas is real happy for that).. I will however get the normal stuff to keep the household going =)

and I have a couple of IRL events to attend – but no more ebay or vintage dresses or shoes or books – Im tired of consumption and it doesn’t make me happy and what the world needs now is less consumption so people in less developed countries can afford to eat proper food again… – I will keep you posted if I can keep this up

nb: just a thought: this provokes the same feeling that i got when I became a vegetarian – it’s a little thing to do to make the world a better place…

Im not a vegetarian anymore – but maybe im the first declared anti-consumerist ? at least that I know of…

rolemodel- my great-grandmother

7.21.2008 | 0 Comments

this picture has made me think:

What you see here is my daughter showing her great-granddad how to play “snake” on her mommy’s phone.

Granddad just laughed and said that it was incredible how things have changed.

I highly respect old people. They are a huge bunch of wisdom and stories. Granddad has lived a life full of technology – even though he might not have notised it, it’s the timeperiod of his life that has made a huge impact for the world ( industrilization, consumer capitalism etc). So I thought I would tell you the story of one of my great rolemodels in my life.

now my great-grandmother ever passed away in 2003.

I still miss her terribly to this day, especially her take on society and her stories – she didn’t get to meet my daughter, but Im sure she knows what a great girl she is.

She was born in 1912 during world war I – her mom and dad was the leaders of the spiritual society in Elsinore so she was razed amongst ghosts and spirits and what-have-you.

She had the nazis digg up her and her husbands garden during world war II searching for guns sent to the danish saboteurs, (yes my great grandfather was a saboteur – who survived the war and has saved a “bunch” of lives sailing jews from Elsinore to Sweden during nighttime throughout the war).

She was one of the people that was “saved” by the socialdemocratic  party of Denmark when they created the danish welfare system.

She saw the development of the car – like from one of the first fords to today almost.

She saw the development of many technologies – not fully grasping them but being very interested in all of them.

She sailed alot and meant a lot for the local sailing community – especially since her husband (my great grandfather) where one of the greatest sailors who lived in Elsinore (he amongst other things won the Sealand Cup ( a danish race around sealand) 10 years in a row in the 50s)

she out-lived her daughter – which broke a small part of her spirit i’m sure….

I remember when I was a kid that I used to get her to try out Giana Sisters on my commodore 64 – which she loved, I am sure she would have been in technology if she where alive and kickin in her late 20s today.

she was really living – grasping everyting from smiles, laughter to tears and grief… and she still means the world to me…

entrepreneurship school : 6 weeks down the road.

I am still very much in love with my life as an entrepreneur and a freelancer. It rocks! and it rumbles..

My biggest fear is that I will be estranged from my family life because “mom/wife is working all the time” – Clients are happy and I think I might have developed a strong workethic. Even though everybody tend to want to get a hold of me most doing my dinner hours ( from 17 – 19 each day) which needs some moderation from my point, because otherwise I can’t get to do all my cookin’

I am currently working from my in-laws house in Aabenraa, which is about 300 miles away from CPH and I am sitting here in a comfy bear chair writing and blogging.

When I get back to Copenhagen I will give you your ears full about the new coworking copenhagen scheme which is not completely done and statemented but it will be soon =) I will be working from Østerbro around 2-3 days a week being much more productive – we are setting up an “office enviroment that is quite exceptional and connected” with a lot of different creative minds coming in on a daily basis =)…

As you probably have notised, my creativity is springing around like a kid in toyland and I love being able to be selfsustainable…

Oh and I have several trips out of the country coming up…

Also, I have had a proposal for changethis.com accepted, so everybody go and vote for me ( and please tell your friends to vote for me as well =)

Next really big thing coming up is the raw material for my book which needs to be finished by August 1st… wuhu =)

Business proposal for changethis.com

7.02.2008 | 0 Comments

Business.

Just the sound of the word kinda get’s to me.
It feels like it’s somewhere elderly old barons in suits belongs.
Not me.
I would though, if business was something more than business.
If marketing was something more than using spreading noisy messages to potential clients.
If employees was something companies embraced.
If businesses could change from one day to another.
They can’t – because they are businesses.
if you look inside an organisation – how many people do you think are actually working to embrace new ideas – to make their clients happy, to create products that are worth buying ?…
And how many people sit around and actually lives their life being core of the business and the controling factor of the employees ? For business to change we need to create a business environment that is suited for changes. For every person within the company to take a ball and run with it…

Now please help me out and go changethis.com so I can get to write the manifesto…
