the recipe to getting more women into the IT industry
is.. that you don’t.
You simply stop mentioning it as the IT industry. Because it’s not what it is anymore. The internet is not about IT. IT is not about IT.
So women should do stuff they love and they normally do - online - and then you have them in IT.
Actually I am thinking that we should give it another word that “the big and bossy IT industry..” maybe something more pink and filled with stilettos.
I don’t see myself in IT, maybe I am in Tech–

Bingo! Agree with EVERYTHING you said, your solution is soooo simple - LOVE it!.
Recently we had a debate on Jaiku (Heeey! Geeky girls!) about women in Tech, and I got slapped - briefly. Women in IT/Tech/Whatever are used to the stereotyping I was guilty of, and lo-and-behold I was presented with an automated answer.
